Haven't been back here for a while. But I have some beautiful pictures of Penelope Cruz to share with you. She totally looks fabulous in the new Campari 2013 Calendar.<br />
<img alt="Senorita! Campari is an Italian drink. the photographer is based in Paris... but Penelope's Spanish heritage permeates the shoot" class="blkBorder" height="400" pxz:uid="1230d915ecd-4" src="http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/11/13/article-2232473-160235C8000005DC-289_634x707.jpg" width="358" /><br />

<img alt="Picture Falling Off The Wall: Traditionally, if a picture of someone specific and/or of significance falls off the wall, it was thought that someone you know will die soon." border="0" id="theImage" src="http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02398/campari-october_2398233k.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<img alt="Hats On Beds: It was believed that evil spirits lived in the hair and that by placing your hat on the bed you would transfer the evil spirits from hair, to hat and then to the bed, thus allowing the evil spirits to get you at night." border="0" id="theImage" src="http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02398/campari-june_2398222k.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<img alt="Walking Under A Ladder: One origin of this superstition is in relation to the similarities between a ladder leaning against a wall and a gallows. Anything associated with a gallows is traditionally considered ill luck, so walking under one - or a ladder that looked like one - is not advisable." border="0" id="theImage" src="http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02398/campari-december_2398212k.jpg" /><br />

Here's something lovely to look at. I have been creating treasuries on Etsy for a while but never actually shared them with you. I was in the mood for Cobalt blue and I said well why not...it turned out pretty well don't you think?<br />
<br />
<script src="http://www.craftcult.com/js/trwi.js?s=2&l=MTA2MDE0Nzd8NzM2MjQ3OTU1&r=31839&t=s&m=0&u=10601477&">

You can learn more about the individual items showcased <a href="http://www.etsy.com/treasury/MTA2MDE0Nzd8NzM2MjQ3OTU1/cobalt-blue-sunset?index=0">here</a>.<br />
I was actuallly thinking about the Cobalt Blue Cowl that I created, that would have fit in perfectly with this treasury.....but you know, we wre only supposed to showcase other peoples work so. But you can still see it below.<br />

See below:</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 16px;">1. Please tell me about yourself and what inspired you to start making these wonderful creations.<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />I'm a recent costume design graduate about to relocate to the DC area in order to start a career working within a university costume shop. Essentially, I sew full time and make jewelry part time. I've always been fascinated by bead work, jewelry, and anything that sparkles so I absolutely adore all of the work that I do every day! <br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /> 2. Your necklaces are so unique, did you have any formal training? <br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />I suppose my most formal training would've come from my university, but as far as jewelry is concerned, I am primarily self-taught. I have a lot of books on jewelry basics and bead work, so I've practiced different techniques during spurts of free time I've had during my middle school and high school years. When I made it to college, I started experimenting with brighter colors and bolder styles, and it wasn't until November 2009 that I became fascinated by the "bib necklace" and "statement jewelry" trends. One thing led to another and I started cranking out different necklaces for a few weeks until I decided to give Etsy a serious shot. However, I've been taking art classes since I've been in elementary school, and in college I've taken several theatrical design courses that have taught me more about combining different elements to create a cohesive piece of jewelry (it's really all about putting what you learn into context to what you do every day).<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />3. Where do you get your inspirations from?<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />Literally all over the place. I love looking for unique color combinations whenever I get the chance. I'll find myself glancing all around to see what catches my eye. <br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />I also looooove to collect books. I have an array of books that span through costume history, fashion, art (especially Art Nouveau), jewelry, nature, history and architecture, and geology. I find inspiration through all of these things and reflect on how I can incorporate different bits of research into my work as a whole. A few months ago, I was on a butterfly kick and started designing a bunch of necklaces that mimicked the wing patterns of tropical butterflies.<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />4. How do you come up with the color schemes? <br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />I suppose I just blabbed about that a little bit in the previous question. :P <br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />5. What's your typical day like?<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />Right now, my life is very hectic! I work at a professional summer stock theatre as a costume stitcher. I work Tuesday through Sunday, 9-6:00. I only have off on Mondays. Once my contract is up at the end of July, life will simmer down for a few weeks. By the end of August, I will be moving from Pennsylvania (born and raised!) to start a career right outside of Washington, DC. From there, I will be working a more "normal" schedule of Monday through Friday, 9-5:00 (and you better believe than I cannot wait for those weekends off!). After work everyday, I come home, and try to relax. I typically check my e-mail throughout the day, so I'll know if I have messages to reply to, orders to pack up, or anything else. Sometimes, I'll find the time to work on new necklace designs... but lately it's been a bit hard since I'm usually exhausted by the time I get home. If I'm too tired to design and make something new, I'll read business articles or simply browse around Etsy or other websites for kicks. My boyfriend and I like to wind down with either a video game or movie, we then hold my adorable pet hamster Scarlett (since she loves to wake up right when I'm about to go to sleep!), and I hit the hay hopefully before midnight!<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />6. Anything else you'd want my readers to know about you and or your business? I will also provide a link back to your shop.<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />I've been thinking a lot about what I want to accomplish with my shop, and what my focus is... I think it's important to have a clear vision of these things or else it can become easy to get overwhelmed by all of the factors of being a small business owner.<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />I've made it absolutely clear in my mind, that as long as "Sparkle Beast Designs" exists, it will be a unique jewelry brand that is entirely handmade and focuses on offering colorful and bold jewelry at a variety of price points. Someone else once said that my work is "fit for any modern day princess", and I really like that idea. Beautiful jewelry shouldn't be worth a small fortune. I want it to be accessible to everyone!<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />Probably the most important thing that comes to my mind about my shop is that I absolutely love what I do. Sometimes it's easy to forget because there is so much going on and you can often takes things for granted... but once in awhile when I'm working, I feel a sense of true happiness and pleasure from what I do as a jewelry designer. I know that what I'm doing is right because I find that while I work, I'm always smiling! :)</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

Have you ever wanted to give a room a facelift or change over...well, Allisons creations will do it for you and then some. She has managed to create the most amazing pendant lights out of ordinary items such as book pages or plastic bags, all echo friendly and sure to be conversation pieces. I just had to chat with her and find out more about her creative process. But first lets take a look at her amazing work...<br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Here's my interview with Allison:</span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">1. Please tell me about yourself and what inspires you to start making these wonderful creations.</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">A: I have always been a crafty person. I was lucky enough to have the most amazing babysitter growing up, and she is one of the most crafty people I know, so we were constantly creating things together. She gave me my first glue gun when I was 8 or so, and we used to make decorative wreaths, and flour dough and all sorts of different art projects. I look back and truly wonder where I would be today if it wasn't for her, and I'm lucky enough to still see her regularly and sometimes we even sit down and craft together!<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />In terms of my lighting design specifically, I've always been fascinated by lights. There is just something so awesome about a big craft project that lights up! I started playing around with lights as part of my main design business Zipper8Design, but then I decided that they really deserved their own shop on Etsy and their own forum, so that's when I split them off into Zipper8Lighting. </span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br />
</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">2. Your lamps are so unique did you have any formal training?</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">A: I don't have any specific training to create lights, but I did graduate last May with a Master of Architecture from Columbia University here in NYC, and their program is about so much more than just architecture, and I learned so much about design in general as well as honing my technical expertise. </span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />3. Where do you get your inspirations from?</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">A: I take inspiration from anything and everything, both in my daily life and online. If I walk into a hardware store or a 99 cent store, my mind just starts whirling, wondering what I can make next. I actually spotted some really colorful fly swatters last summer in my local hardware store, and recently I was thinking about how I could make a cool light out of them. I love rethinking a material and seeing how I can transform it from a more standard function into something new and wonderful. Beyond that I just feel like I keep a digital catalog in my head of all the inspirational ideas I've seen, and I'm always thinking about rethinking projects other people have done, and taking my own spin on them. I keep lists of awesome projects I want to try, and sometimes a couple different projects come together in my mind to make something new and unique.</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />4, You're creations are so beautiful I know you must have a special way of creating them, can you tell us about that?</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">A: I wouldn't say I have any special way of creating my lights, more than anyone else. Mostly my process involves a paper lantern or some other base form work, my trusty glue gun and lots of glue sticks, and then plenty of materials such as coffee filters, straws or paper circles. Then I just get to work and start gluing things together. There's often a lot of experimentation that goes along with the process, I've learned the easy way and the hard way to make some projects and I usually have to search around until I find the best source of supplies. I try to chronicle some of my experiments on my blog, the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse, Redecorate (</span></span><a href="http://the3Rsblog.wordpress.com/" style="color: #0192b5; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">the3Rsblog.wordpress.com</span></span></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">) and I'm always looking for the next fun project to try.</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br />

What's your typical day like?</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">A: My typical day is about to drastically change. Since graduating from school I have been taking a bit of time off, first for a vacation and then because I couldn't find a full time job. My days are very low key, I don't have any set schedule so I'll spend time with my puppy, Basel, and then I'll usually spend some time online browsing around my favorite blogs and places to find inspiration. Then I might work on a project or two, sometimes I am really motivated and sometimes I just don't feel like creating. However, starting on Monday I am going to be working full time so my days are going to drastically change. I'm not sure how this is going to effect my business, but I do know that even if its just for my own mental health, I would like to be able to spend at least an hour and hopefully 2 or 3 hours a night being crafty. I'm lucky in that it is just me and Basel, so I have the time to devote to being crafty and following my hearts desire. If my business really takes off I'm sure I'll need to create a more specific schedule, in terms of when I sit down to work online, when I sit down to create new lights, when I mail boxes etc. For now I can only wait and hope that one day I will be wishing I had fewer sales. For now, I'm just happy for every sale I get and I just can't wait to fill my shop with more exciting lighting!</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;"><br />

Anything else you'd want my readers to know about you and or your business?</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">A: I love my lighting, and when I see an idea or a material that I want to make into a project, inevitably my first thought is, 'could that be a light?' But, the first products I ever developed and created are my beer bottle cap coasters from my main design shop, and they will always have a special place in my heart. You can find them here: </span></span><a href="http://Zipper8Design.etsy.com/" style="color: #0192b5; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">Zipper8Design.etsy.com</span></span></a></span></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />

<br />
Oh I just love them all, you can see more of her designs <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/fionadesigns?ref=seller_info">here</a>.<br />
I was so captivated by her cards I needed to find out more about the creative force behind them. Here's my interview with the talented Fiona.<br />
<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">1. What inspired you to start your business?</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">I started designing greeting cards about eight years ago. I was spurred on by the fact that I never found exactly what I was looking for when card shopping. I wanted to create cards that were unique, elegant, simple and reflected my sense of design. This year I have added to my collection personalized stationery which is a nice compliment to my offerings. I enjoy working with my clients to create custom stationery and cards just for them.<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />2. Do you have any formal training?<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />Yes I do. The majority of my graphic design training was acquired on the job working as a Graphic Designer, Senior Graphic Designer and Art Director for a wide variety of corporations and non profit organizations. I continued to hone my creative skills by studying at Parsons School of Design in New York City where I earned a MFA.<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />3. What's your typical day like?<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />That is a really good question. I don't think I have a typical day as everyday brings new creative challenges. I try and balance my time between designing custom orders for my clients and creating new designs to include in my etsy shop. The majority of my time lately has been spent coming up with ideas for my personalized stationery collection which I mentioned earlier.<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />4. Where do you get your inspirations from?<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />So many things inspire me - the loved ones in my life especially - many of the sentiments on the greeting cards were created with them in mind. From a visual perspective I am constantly inspired and in awe of nature, flowers, birds, landscapes, you name it.<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />5. How do you come up with the color schemes?</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">For the color schemes I consider each piece individually. For the greeting cards I create one design in a variety of color schemes using pantone swatches as a guide. I then print out the many options and decide which I like the best. Often times, even after they have been sent as final to the printer, changes in color still occur at the last minute during the print proofing stage. With the personalized stationery in my etsy shop I have selected colors that I feel work with the design but also encourage clients to customize the stationery with colors that are important or appeal to them.</span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> </span><br />

I have been away for a few days and now that I am back I have a few trinkets to share with you. There are so many talented artists on Etsy and they make such beautiful piece its hard to resist them.<br />
Take a look at these Steampunk creations below from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/YouniquelyChic?ref=pr_shop_more">YouniquelyChic</a>. To tell the truth I had never heard of the term Steampunk as it applied to jewelry until I discovered Youniquely Chic's store....I know, you must be thinking where have I been living...under a rock or something? The term is sometimes used to describe the intersection of Romance and Technology and in this case its superbly captured. These pieces are so unique and ingeniously made, I found them intriguing...sure to be conversation pieces!<br />
<br />
<img height="200" src="http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.199720025.jpg" style="-webkit-user-select: none;" width="200" /><img height="200" src="http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.117957741.jpg" style="-webkit-user-select: none;" width="200" /><br />
<img height="200" src="http://ny-image2.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.200446158.jpg" style="-webkit-user-select: none;" width="200" /><img height="200" src="http://ny-image1.etsy.com/il_fullxfull.214916953.jpg" style="-webkit-user-select: none;" width="200" /><br />

I hope you will enjoy my selections as much as I do. And if you feel you would like me to showcase someone you admire please feel free to let me know.<br />
<br />
So today we're going to visit Jes, an interior designer by trade and crafter at heart, owner of Etsy Store "DearJes". I stumbled onto Jes's store as I was trying to find Easter related artifacts to write about since Easter is just a little over 3 weeks away....and I just literally gasped at how beautiful her clay eggs were, perfect for easter and a host of other uses. I quickly decided to contact her and see if she could answer a few questions for me. She graciously agreed. But first, take a look at a few of the goodies in her store:<br />

Here's my interview with Jes:<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">BB. What inspired you to start your business?</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">J: I have always been artistic. I have been making gifts for my friends, and decorative items for my home for as long as I can remember. When I found Etsy I knew that it was the perfect forum for my new little venture. <br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />BB: Did you have any formal training?</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">J: My degree is from Virginia Tech in Interior Design. It's actually a really great foundation for me. Although my focus in school was much more focused on commercial design, and interior architecture (as opposed to "decorating") I carry so many principles of design and color with me. I apply them daily.<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />BB: What's your typical day like?</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">J: I have two sweet rowdy little boys (Cole 6 and Mac 3). So, most of my day is spent caring for/entertaining them. Also, cooking, cleaning, breaking up fights... It's all very glamorous. My Dearjes work is always secondary to my primary "job" as a stay at home Mom. My Dearjes duties come in small bites throughout the day when I can fit them in. My Husband Troy is my photographer... so when he is home, we have "photo shoots". My assistant/friend, Claire does all of my packing and shipping. She does an outstanding job.<br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />BB: Where do you get your inspirations from? </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">J:I am inspired directly from nature. I like my nests to appear as if they were discovered in a tree, created by a very smart and literate bird. I also am inspired greatly by the change of seasons. I change the accessories in my home seasonally, and my shop evolves as well.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />BB: How do you come up with the color/design themes? </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">J: Many of my designs are a tribute to the creativity of the brides I have worked with. We work together to find the prefect cake topper, or ring bearers nest for their wedding. Often that item becomes a regular Dearjes offering. I am a total color-snob. I cringe when a bride asks for fushia eggs. I will make them of course ...though it be through gritted teeth. I just think of the poor diseased bird that laid them. I love colors that appear in nature.</span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />BB: What's your target market? </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">J: I'd guess that 80% of our business is bridal. To be honest I was leery to enter this market. I was fearful that I'd be dealing with lots of Bridezillas.... but the truth is that the brides I have had the privilege to work with have been wonderful. Maybe it's the Etsy culture? I feel so lucky to do what I do. It's such joy filled work. I get to play a tiny role in a monumental day in the lives of my customers. I feel so fortunate. <br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" /><br style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" />BB: Anything else you'd want my readers to know about you and or your business? </span></span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">J: I take so much pride in my work. I would never ship something that I would not display in my own home, or would have used at my wedding. Dearjes is not a wealth driven venture. It's has been very successful, but at the core I want a creative outlet that inspires me. It's not about putting food on the table. I never want to be out of reach for a bride. We have a very attainable price-point and I am proud of that. I love being a part of the handmade community for this reason. Since opening Dearjes last year, I have become so much more aware of how products are made. It's been a wonderful adventure. </span></span><br />

So when I came accross the <a href="http://www.tamimiea.com/giraffe-manor/giraffe-manor-surroundings.html">Giraffe Manor</a>...actually a friend of mine visited and recommended it, I immediately fell in love with this exotic place! I thought I should share it with you. Its located just 20 kilometers away from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya in East Africa. I love giraffes and this manor brings you up close and personal with girraffes. They are literally in your backyard!<br />
